Gayle Jones, formerly Gayle Curtis-Jones wrote her dissertation on the tradition of fabric thangka. Her dissertation titled “The Fabric Thanka of Tibet: Aesthetic Inquiry into a Living Tradition” is the only cohesive written study on fabric thangka. Jones received her Ph.D. from New York in 1993.
